Back in March 2020, UK Hardwoods Tom Bedford was entered for the Business ACTION Awards 2020 and in June this year, he found out he was a winner of his category. The awards celebrate the achievements of businesses operating in the the local area in and around Devon, and the news couldn’t have come at a better time.
Tom was entered into the Young Entrepreneur Award, having bought UK Hardwoods ltd just under ten years ago and built it up to the business you see today. This award recognises business owners and directors under 30 years old, and was the perfect opportunity for Tom’s hard work to be recognised and rewarded.
Our business world is one of change, now more than ever. It is one where restructuring and new ideas are required. The current expansion of UK Hardwoods site encapsulates the business world’s requirement for innovation. It also fulfils the requirements of the Business ACTION Awards 2020. Tom’s vision for the site’s current eco-extension supports one of the main criteria of the Young Entrepreneur awards long-term visions for businesses.
Other criteria portrayed in Tom, such as commitment to acquiring new skills and ability to learn from business setbacks were judged by a panel all with experience of business in Devon. With 104 entries, there were 44 finalists selected across the different categories and one winner per category.
Winning the award was a great achievement for both Tom and all of us here at UK Hardwoods. With big projects in the pipeline, in the midst of turbulent economic times, it’s both motivating and encouraging to be awarded for hard work and change. The yard has adapted to allow for customers to continue collecting orders, and we have good relationships with delivery companies across the UK to deliver our flooring. 2020 certainly hasn’t been the year we all thought it would be, but we’re heading in the right direction now.
