Nadan Cox, Derby
Being a yoga teacher and nutritionalist, Nadan is at one with nature and wanted to live in a rustic interior that minimised toxins. The sustainable ethos of UK Hardwoods fitted with Nadan’s own outlook in designing a home using re-useable materials and keeping a respect for nature.
Our Heritage Oak is one of our most natural looking floorings, in that it is undulating and embraces the wood’s character. Nadan has finished the boards a little, but left them rustic and soft to fit his lifestyle. No harsh chemicals or lacquers were used on the flooring to finish it.
Being able to use the floor for downward dog is important to Nadan, but his own dog also needed to feel comfortable in the surrounding space. A place to lay a wagging tail on a flooring that wasn’t going to be compromised by muddy paws was an important factor in the decision making process.
Nadan returned to us to complete his kitchen design in the same year as ordering his flooring. Keeping in unison with his natural wood interior, Nadan chose chunky wooden worktops from our Heritage Oak, and embraced the knots and cracks formed by this timber. We were able to machine boards at a thicker depth than our flooring, but still retaining the same wood type, grain and texture.
By inviting nature in, Nadan has created a beautiful and homely design, one that feels open to the elements of the world. He has sourced organic and sustainable materials to create a natural environment in which to live. His appreciation for nature is shown throughout the home with earthy tones and natural textiles at every turn.
“I am a yoga teacher and nutritionist and love to maximise my health in every way. I wanted to have a really natural and rustic interior that minimised toxins and was a sustainable choice.”
