As if this year couldn’t get more exciting, we have some fantastic news for you!

As a consortium member of the Capchar project, we’ve been successful in securing funding through the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Funding for this competition has come from the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio. The team is led by Capchar Ltd and includes Biochar Project Services, a recognised expert with extensive experience in pyrolysis and biochar production.

Our project will produce a design study detailing how a biochar plant at our location in Devon can deliver high quality biochar, for sequestration directly into UK soils to enable the removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and meet the UK’s Net Zero targets.

We have a good supply of waste wood available and suitable to be used for conversion into biochar. We’re used to running sustainable energy practices and maintaining another is an opportunity for UK Hardwoods as a mill. Being involved with the project is very exciting as we hope biochar becomes an important piece of the new green economy.
