We’re thrilled to announce that UK Hardwoods has just invested in a brand-new Mebor HTZ 1200 Extreme 15 bandsaw for our sawmill! This exciting purchase was made by Tom and Polly in May this year, marking a significant step forward for our growing business. The new saw is a critical addition to support our recently established thermally modifying plant—an innovative, completely chemical-free process that enhances the properties of our timber
How big is the new sawmill in Devon?
This impressive machine allows us to cut logs up to 1500mm (nearly 5 feet) in diameter, and up to 11 metres long meaning we can now process much larger hardwood trees than ever before. With its powerful motor options and massive 1200mm flywheels, the Mebor saw gives us the capability to create beautiful timber products from even the most substantial oak, ash, and chestnut trees—the three hardwood species we specialise in at UK Hardwoods.
Super powers of the Mebor........
The Mebor HTZ 1200 Extreme 15 isn’t just powerful—it’s precise too. The saw uses a specialised blade that’s over 8 meters long and 160mm wide, allowing for incredibly accurate cuts that reduce waste and maximise the value we can get from each precious hardwood log. This means better quality timber for our customers and more sustainable use of natural resources. The increased output from this new saw will directly feed our innovative thermal modification process, which improves the stability and durability of our ash, without using any chemicals whatsoever. It allows us to cut trees that we couldn’t;t do as whole pieces before.

Our team has been busy getting trained on this impressive piece of equipment, which weighs in at a substantial 18-21 tonnes! We’re already seeing significant improvements in our production capacity—the saw can process up to 55 cubic meters of timber in an 8-hour shift (although we’re not going to be running it at this capacity full time!!) We’ll be sharing videos of the Mebor in action soon, so you can see this amazing machine transforming raw logs into beautiful hardwood timber right before your eyes!
